Last March, EQO-NIXUS successfully finalised the implementation of a consultancy Project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank in Ecuador. The objective of the project was to train the staff of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies of Ecuador (MEER) in Energy Management Systems (EMS) and ISO 50001 certification standard.

The project comprised three capacity building programs about implementation of EMS; EMS audits and ISO 17024. Besides, a report on the activities to be performed by the MEER to become a certifier entity in ISO 50001 was prepared. The last activity of the project was the pilot implementation of an EMS based on ISO 50001 in one of the main hospitals of Quito, which will serve as the cornerstone of the implementation of further energy efficiency measures in other hospitals throughout the country. As part of the capacity building program, an internal audit of the EMS of a plant of Cervecería Nacional – Grupo ABinBev Ecuador was organised, where the participants were able to perform a real audit focused on energy planning, implementation of an EMS and energy monitoring and verification.
