EQO-NIXUS was selected by ENDE in mid-2019 for the supervision as owners´ engineer of the world’s highest solar PV plant above sea level. The Government of Bolivia launched a National Development Plan aiming at diversifying the energy mix of the country. The Government intended to increase the use of renewable energy sources in order to achieve a sustainable energy production, in line with new climate change policies and international proposals.
As a result of this program, the construction of the Oruro Photovoltaic Plant, located in the Department of Oruro (Province of Cercado), began in 2018. This project supervises the construction of the high-capacity solar PV plant and it should help develop national expertise in the construction, operation and maintenance of solar power plants and prove the country’s capacity to develop renewable energies.
The 100 MWp Oruro Solar Plant project consists of two phases 50 MWp each. The first phase, of 50 MWp was executed by the contractor and became operational in August 2019.
EQO-NIXUS is currently supervising the Phase II, which, in addition to the construction of the solar field, includes the construction of a 24.5 kV / 115kV step-up substation and the construction of a 200 m line for the interconnection of the plant.
