From 1 to 12 December 2014, Lluis Vilardell, EQO’s Executive Director and Lluís Torrent, Senior Consultant on Climate Change, will attend to the 20th Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCC that will be held in Lima, Peru.

The climate change conference will bring together government officials from almost every country, non-profit organization, UN agencies and the business community. The COP 20 is considered to be at a crucial moment to reach a new, long-term and legally binding deal to reduce global carbon emissions that shall be adopted at COP21 in Paris. The Environment Minister of Peru, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, talked about “the necessity to build a clear and solid alliance for the new global climate agreement”.

EQO members are in Lima following in situ the climate change negotiations sessions and participating in the Spanish Delegation. EQO are also attending technical side events to get the latest information on topics such as REDD+, National Climate Mitigation strategies and NAMAs definition, National Climate Adaptation Strategies, CDM projects, Transition to low carbon economies or Strategies and actions towards a more resilient environment, among others.

“It is a great opportunity for us to be present at the COP 20 in Lima”, states Lluís Vilardell, “We are the heart of the world’s climate change negotiations and we are already getting synergies with many organisations present at the COP”, concludes after spending two days  the COP.

EQO members seized the opportunity to be in Lima to meet with technical and government representatives from Peru’s Ministry of Environment (MINAM) and representatives of the most relevant organisations and companies from Peru’s environmental sector.
