The agriculture sector is the backbone of Afghanistan economy and is a key component of both the licit and illicit economies, contributing around 28% of GDP. Agriculture is also one of its most challenging sectors in terms of labour market and job creation, since, despite low productivity in the sector, it constitutes the main economic activity for rural households, accounting for 50% of employment, and remains their main source of income
The overall objective of the EU action to be evaluated is to create prosperous and stable rural communities by contributing to a sustainable increase in the volume and value of agricultural production.
The European Commission has selected EQO-NIXUS to review and assess the EU support to Agriculture, National Resources Management were effective and efficient in term of changes on the behaviour, knowledge management and/or skills development
EQO-NIXUS experts will carry out an overall independent assessment of the past performance of the Financing Agreement “EU Support to Agriculture in Afghanistan in Transition”, paying particular attention to its intermediate/final results measured against its objectives; and the reasons underpinning such results; and will identify key lessons learned, conclusions and related recommendations in order to improve current and future Actions.
